Since October 2025 GFBio e.V. has joined the NFDI consortium DataPLANTas a participant. Building on the experiences of organising NFDI4Biodiversity, GFBio will help to enhance the collaboration between the consortia, as well as the plant physiological and biodiversity research communities.
DataPLANT
DataPLANT is one of 26 DFG funded consortia of the Nationalen Forschungsdateninfrastruktur (NFDI, German: Nationale Forschungsdateninfrastruktur). The main goal of the consortium is to establish and develop sustainable research data management (RDM) practices within the plant physiological research community. By providing digital tools, like the Annotated Research Context (ARC) to create structured data and metadata organization, the PlantDataHub, to publish the ARCs, or the DataPLAN for the creation of data management plans, as well as organising workshops and establishing contact points for consultations, DataPLANT aims to increase awareness for RDM, engage the research community and facilitate the creation of FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) data products.
GFBio’s commitment to DataPLANT: DataPLANTxNorth
GFBio e.V. is committed to promote and facilitate the adoption of tools and services of DataPLANT within and beyond the discipline of plant physiology. Since July 2026 the project DataPLANTxNorth was funded as part of a DataPLANT community call. The project aims to close a regional gap in Northern Germany within its 18 months long funding period. DataPLANTxNorth will organise general and specific workshops suited for working groups within this region. Open educational resources will be created specifically to engage communities beyond DataPLANT’s original scope. Additionally, the professional exchange between partners of the association and the consortium, as well as between RDM-Networks will be fostered.
The Biodata Interest Group
Finally, the GFBio association and DataPLANT are committed to further increase the reach of these goals as part of the Biodata Interest Group. Through shared infrastructures, interoperable services, engaging RDM tools and their efficient development and enhancement, the Biodata Interest Groups will be a facilitator of cross-discipline collaboration between six NFDI consortia in the field of life science research.
