NFDI4Biodiversity – Consortium for Biodiversity, Ecology and Environmental Data
in the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI)
To better understand and protect biodiversity, science, nature conservation and politics need reliable data. However, biodiversity data is often difficult to find – for example because it is only stored temporarily or not publicly accessible.
In NFDI4Biodiversity, more than 50 institutions and initiatives – including research institutions, environmental agencies, natural history museums and associations – are working to establish a digital infrastructure that will make it possible to store, search and use relevant data in a long-term and quality-assured manner.
The aim is to provide researchers, stakeholders in nature conservation and politics as well as other data enthusiasts with databases, tools and training opportunities for working with biodiversity, ecology and environmental data - and thus support the protection of global biodiversity.
NFDI4Biodiversity is part of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) launched by the federal and state governments in 2018, which systematically indexes and networks valuable data sets from science and research for the entire German science system and across all disciplines, making them available for sustainable and qualitative use.
Our responsibilities in NFDI4Biodiversity
